Trendy Indoor Plants for 2018

Feb 07, 2018

Staying focused on your goals takes a lot of work and dedication in the cold winter months. We can all relate that keeping motivated and productive on a dark – 20 degree day is tough, especially if we have the option to stay under the warm covers all day watching Netflix. However, as Canadians, the cold is nothing new to us and we’re experienced in battling and overcoming those instincts… most of the time.

For the majority of the time, there are many things we can do to increase our energy levels and sustain a positive mood. One of the many ways is to surround yourself with things that make you happy, starting with your environment. Having said that, a great tactic is to convince yourself summer never left by creating a lush garden full of life inside! Why not bring the sunshine inside with your favourite plants and flowers?! Luckily for us Canadians, there are many different houseplants that are durable and easy-to-grow inside.

Here are a few indoor houseplant trends for 2018 to keep our positive vibes going this winter:

Succulents are great because they are low maintenance, don’t take up much space, are inexpensive, and they come in a wide variety so you can never get bored! There are even some succulents that can survive outside in a mild winter. For a Complete Guide to Growing Succulents.

Ferns are great plants to grow inside! Just like succulents, there are many to choose from. They are the oldest plant and have been around since prehistoric times so they are highly adaptable and provide a tropical feel to your home. Majority of ferns do best with consistent moisture so they will require watering a couple times a week. Learn more about Fern Care Basics.

The great thing about creating an aquatic garden is that it’s already in water so you obviously don’t need to water it. Marimo balls and water ferns specifically are the ultimate low-maintenance house plant. Marimo balls grow in cold fresh water so they will not require special supplements for the water. Also, water ferns and marimo balls are common vegetation found in aquariums so you can purchase them at aquarium supply and pet stores.
